  Introduction
  Established on 28 August 1958 by means of The National Art Gallery Act 1959, Act 516. The ordinance for forming the NAG Board of Trustees was entrenched by His Majesty the King in 1959. Presently, the NAG comes under the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage.

  q       To acquire artworks for the Permanent Collection of National Visual Arts Heritage reflecting the cultural creativity and aspiration from within and outside the country.      qTo conserve , preserve, document and research the permanent collection of National Visual Arts Heritage and the country’s history of the arts.      qTo promote and upgrade the quality of national visual arts by organising exhibition, seminars, workshops, competition and art-related activities inside and outside the country.      
  qTo create awareness and promote understanding and appreciation of the arts.

NAG as the non-profit organization get her financial support from the government for the management and also activities. Either than that ….      
  ENDOWMEN FUND 
    In 1994 NAG has formed the Trustees fund call Endowment Fund. This fund received RM 5,000,000.00 from the government , RM 2,000,000.00 from  Petronas dan RM 250,000.00 Maybank.     
  Annual income (Bank interest) used to buy artworks for the National Art Heritage Collection.  Amongst the works that NAG bought through this fund are the Frank Swettenham dan George Giles Collection cost  RM 662,464.00.     
  With this fund NAG  can explore and acquire more Malaysian art heritage from the Christies & Sothebys Auction.
